BP Officer

PR/Social Media Officer

Legal & Financial Officer

Skills Development Officer

President

At the helm of the organisation is the President. The President guides the society makes sure that organisation functions well.
Even though the President is a head of the organisation, this position does not imply having full authority in decision-making. All decisions are made by voting within the Board with simple majority, difficult matters are addressed with a two-thirds majority. The President is there to co-ordinate the organisation, but cannot veto decisions.

BP Officer

This officer is responsible for organising the British Parliamentary debates. You are at the same time responsible for educating and training participants, meaning that this function also includes coaching. The coaching aspect (for BP) states that participants are trained to understand and practise the rules of BP, as well in weekly debates as in tournaments. Training implies giving feedback (general and personal).
Organising BP debates consists out: weekly BP debates; make reservations for rooms to hold the debate; creating and/or choosing motions for each BP session; clear communication to the PR team for publishing and advertisement.
In case of debates of a different format: this will be discussed among the Board if this is to take place and what format there is to be used.

PR/Social Media Officer

This officer is responsible for all communication of internal and formal extend within the Board (announcement of meetings, events, debates etc.), but more importantly towards everyone outside the Board. The officer is responsible for public relations (PR), advertisement, publishing of all information that is agreed to be sent to the public, publishing of events etc. You are very familiar with Facebook and mail (maintenance of inbox, formalities of writing mails to speakers, other student associations etc.). They are also responsible for the distribution of flyers and posters (if printed). Handiness with social media is also a requirement: LDS can be found on Facebook & Instagram at the moment, but expansion or adaption is certainly possible.
Possessing knowledge about maintaining or creating a website is an asset.

Financial &
Legal Officer

This officer is responsible for financial, legal and budgetary businesses. This means maintaining the organisation’s bank account, keeping track of income and expenses and setting up the legal side of LDS. Next year, LDS is to be made a npo, for which we also need your knowledge to create and maintain this status.
Towards next year and the years to come, LDS is also looking for sponsors and partners. The F&L officer stands for expanding this side of the organisation as well. Finally, you also make summaries of the team and general meetings and pass these on to the other members of the Board.

Skills Development Officer

This officer is responsible for general skill development with all debaters. Outside of the skills of BP (rules, formalities etc. for which the BP officer is responsible), the skills of every debater are being tracked and measured by the Skill development officer. A debater with LDS does not only debate in BP, but also in other open debates, tournaments, lectures etc. On this level, the skill development officer ensures that a debater grows and improves as well.
