European Youth Event 2021

On the 8-9th of October Leuven Debating Society and Louvain-la-Neuve Debating Society took part in the European Youth Event 2021.

We were hosting a debate with a motion "THBT the future of the EU lies with fewer member states". To bring more interactivity in the process, this time we allowed questions from audience. Also, we had a vote before and after the debate. It was meant to prove that even having a very controversial topic, one may change their opinion when faced with a convincing argument.

We want to thank everybody who was supporting us along the way and who signed up for our event! It was a great success for our organisation. LDS was working on such a big scale for the first time, and our activity was completely booked!

We are grateful for the opportunity to host the debate in the European Parliament in Strasbourg and for the fast and fruitful cooperation from the EYE 2021!

LDS 1st debating tournament

On the 20-21st of November LDS hosted the 1st debating tournament.

We held 5 rounds of debates with motions:

- This House would make voting mandatory.

- This House prefers a world where humans cannot perceive aesthetic beauty.

- This House believes that democracy has failed the third world.

- This House regrets the romanticisation of working from home amidst the pandemic.

- This House, as Christians, regrets the rise of popular mainstream artists coopting gospel themes in their works.

Congratulations to a team from Germany, "Felix & Soko", who won the prize in debating, and to the team "Devil's Advocates" from Leuven for the award as the best public speaking team!
